You currently have Lite, Double, Triple as Portion items. Having a "On the Side" would allow us to select this button and any toppings to be placed on the side and not on the sandwich or pizza. Currently we have to leave the Combo Screen or Super Screen to put items for a sandwich on the side. Customers often ask for peppers, tomatoes, Pickles and so on be placed on the side. This seems like a very easy change that would be very useful. Currently you place a modifier like "LT" in front of item. You could place "OS" in front of the item. This will tell the preparer to place on the side.

That's a nice idea but currently you can program a comment button to advise the kitchen of the "on the side" status.  There is no need to exit the super or combo button to make a comment.

I disagree with your dismissal of this feature. I've read through the forums and a lot of people are looking for a more streamlined "OTS" option than your suggestion of programming a comment button.

I tried using the comment button - but the problem is a comment shows up as a completely separate line item on the kitchen ticket. We all need the comment to show up within the item it's being used for. Is there a way to do this? It's unbelievably clunky to type out every ingredient for a single item that the customer wants on the side and then have that "comment" show up somewhere else on the receipt!?

Ham and Cheese Sandwich
-no tomato
-mayo OTS

xXx Other Item

xXx Other Item
---------------

is so much simpler for a prep worker (who's moving at a ridiculous pace to begin with) to understand than something that looks more like this:

Ham and Cheese Sandwich
-no tomato

xXx Other Item

xXx Other Item

*mayo OTS Ham and Cheese*
-------------------------

Also, the first way would allow the person at the register to be far more efficient (a MUST for QSR's).

Please don't just dismiss this.

Perhaps you aren't aware of our existing solution.  The idea you presented is more cumbersome than the existing solution.  For example, within the super button create two new buttons in the button map area.  One is called MAYO.  The other is called MAYO ON THE SIDE.   Place both buttons in a button group and be sure to allow only one selection.

Tapping a button is much faster than choosing from a list.

Let me be clear that your suggestion was not dismissed.  All suggestions are placed on our suggestion list for consideration.  To understand how suggestions are handled, please read from the link below:

How Suggestions are handled once received.

In any case, we appreciate and welcome your suggestions.  The mutual goal is to improve Point of Success.

I do understand that "solution" however your super button is not able to handle as many different modifiers as apply to most menus. There isn't space to have 2 versions of each button. In our case, for instance, we have 10 toppings, and 15 sauces and and all of which can be on the side (and often are). Not counting vegetables, cheese, meats that also randomly are requested OTS. That doesn't all fit in one super button. I wish it was a simple as you say. Fact is, it's not. And in a completely MTO world - lots of is need more flexibility in our pos programs.

The Super Button includes room for 100 buttons in the button map.  Should you need over 100 buttons for one product, it would be prudent to have someone review your menu design.  Many issues can be handled by changing the menu design slightly.  I would recommend that you have someone (such as a dealer) review you menu design to see if there is a better solution.  Menus can be designed many different ways and and experienced eye can make suggestions that you've never considered.

We do also offer menu design services should you decide to have the menu created by either Point of Success or one of our dealers.

Not too jump in here, but we as a dealer need more than 100 buttons in about 30% of menus to get the most efficient setup. It sounds like alot of buttons, but as squarebeancoffee stated they go really really fast. We would really like the ability to have 15X15, which would accommodate the number of products we need.

On a typical 15 inch screen having 15X15 buttons still leaves them large enough to click and identify easily.

In an hour on Friday night I had OTS requests 15 times. I am not sure why garyt is fighting against this idea. Is it a major programing task to add an extra modifier?

I am not fighting the idea.  It's on the suggestion list.  What I am offering is what you can do NOW!

We appreciate everyone's feedback.

Lets confine future posts on this subject to what others are doing.   This is a help forum and we need to offer solutions with the current technology in place.

For example, Prescott POS is willing to look at your menu and offer suggestions and assistance.

Gary,

I also would like to raise my hand for OTS to be added as a portion option. We never use triple and I have often thought I could easily tell my kitchen staff that when they see 3x it means OTS. :)

We are constantly commenting various OTS pizza toppings, salad toppings, sandwich condiments.

I understand the work around but would be nearly impossible for pizza toppings are we would have to have two buttons for all 30 toppings. Can you imagine that screen?

This is on the top of my love to have list.
